FAQ - General Questions
What is TaxScripts®?
TaxScripts® is an application that allows Circular 230 Tax Professionals (Enrolled Agents, Attorneys, Certified Public Accountants) to quickly request a POA or a transcript history on an individual or a business taxpayer electronically. It alleviates much of the cumbersome data entry and repetition involved in using the IRS E-services website by gathering data once and performing tasks automatically. Using TaxScripts® allows you to perform tasks that you would normally perform using E-services in a fraction of the time.
Do I need an IRS E-services account to use TaxScripts®?
Yes, you must have a valid account with IRS E-services and have access to both the Disclosure Authorization System and Transcript Delivery System. TaxScripts® uses your IRS E-services user name and password to automate the IRS E-services website. The application will log you in, fill out the appropriate forms, and monitor your secure mailbox.
How do I register for an IRS E-services account?
Registration is open to nearly everyone. However, in order to have access to the Disclosure Authorization System and the Transcript Delivery System (which is required by TaxScripts®), you must (a) have an EFIN or (b) be assigned as a delegated user to an organization that has an EFIN (SEE NOTE). For additional information, please visit www.irs.gov, click on the Tax Professionals link, and select the link entitled "e-services - Online Tools for Tax Professionals."
NOTE Effective November 1, 2007, Circular 230 Practitioners who qualify as Attorneys, Certified Public Accountants, or Enrolled Agents will have unlimited access to the incentive products listed above upon completion and acceptance of an Online e-file application.
